Two things make my heart that beats dog go a little faster: Helping dogs and finding good products for those rescue dogs.
So when the folks at Sweet Relish sent me a box of goodies to try out, I went one better: I donated them to one of my fur-ends who is also a doggie foster mom (and mom to a few cutie pies of her own).
SweetRelish is a site similar to Pinterest, but instead of “boards” you create “lists” and the lists have items on them that you can purchase directly from the list. It’s easy, too:
- Head to the Sweet Relish Site: Sweet Relish.
- Click on Get the “R” button
- Click Add or Drag and add to your toolbar

So once I created my list of goodies, I made sure to add the items that are now being used by Freddy, a foster dog in the care of Life’s Little Paws. I wanted Freddy to have these items because life sure did not cut this innocent soul a break. Sweet Relish sent me a box of dog products to try out, which I sent to my pal, Nancy Height, who has fostered a dog from Life’s Little Paws. Nancy is the foster mom to Jagger and is going to dog sit for Freddy. I received an email about Freddy that read, “Urgent Foster needed in Connecticut. Freddy is tied to a dog house 24/7 the owner no longer wants him. He cries for attention. A concerned neighbor has got the owner to agree to give him up. He is 8 years old. Please help us find a foster so he doesn’t spend another cold and lonely night tied to a dog house.”
For starters, Freddy will need a Thundershirt to help him relax, as he is currently (and rightfully so) fearful of some people. The Thundershirt provides a gentle doggie hug for scared pooches. Thanks to its calming but safe pressure points dispersed throughout the shirt, anxiety is more easily relieved. When our dogs are scared, pet parents (like me) tend to feel upset and transfer our fears as well. I know my dog reads my body language and facial expressions, so knowing the Thundershirt is handy when storms are in the air puts me at ease. Makes a thoughtful gift for dog moms and dads, plus it comes in XXS to XXL for little elves and big reindeer-sized dogs. Visit Thundershirt.com.
Keep From Pulling
Freddy will need some help getting acclimated to walking. After all, if you are left tied up outside, you certainly aren’t getting much walk time, right? I was able to send my pal Nancy a WACKYwalk’r leash. The concept is pretty cool. It is is 3′ long and stretches to 6′. When your dog pulls, the leash stretches and then provides a gentle correction “pulling” them back into line…No special training techniques required!
While Nancy is training Freddy and taking her other dogs for a walk, the Ruff Bowl is one of those handy “why didn’t I think of that” products. Ruff Bowl is designed for exactly these situations. It clips easily onto most large retractable leashes, holds used poop bags away from your hand, and can hold up to 4.5 oz. of water when it’s time for Fido to take a drink.
Sadly, when the rescue folks from Life’s Little Paws found out about Freddy, they weren’t sure whether he was a boy or girl dog because he was a badly matted pile of mess. Thankfully, a caring vet and groomer were able to slowly groom Freddy. As he gets used to people and being touched in a positive way (aka pets and hugs), his foster parents and my pal Nancy will be able to use the Eco Me Dog Shampoo in Lavender or Grapefruit Sage. It contains essential oils made from plants have antibacterial properties. Pet shampoos may cause an increase of pet skin irritation, hot spots and dandruff are often a cause of chemical base grooming products. Eco-Me products are testing for safety and effectiveness. Eco-Me is a proud partner of the NPA (Natural Products Association). Eco-Me does not test on animals or use animal bi-products (PETA & LEAPING BUNNY APPROVED).
We’ve got these four products on our Sweet Relish wish list and now Freddy will be privy to them as well.
Four paws up for this great service where you can build all sorts of lists to share with friends: think wedding shower, baby showers, birthday and holiday wish lists, and a list for each pet in your family. Dexter’s wish list is forming. Give it a try. And thanks to Life’s Little Paws and Nancy Height for giving Freddy the life he deserves.
Note: Sweet Relish sent me these products to try their service and review them and I paid it forward to this rescue pooch.
