Rock Star Dog Needs a Forever Home

Baby Joey needs a home

If there was a dog who needed a home…a forever home at that….and said dog had special needs in terms of his rear legs but not in terms of his spirit and zest for life, would you help him? One of the most amazing dogs I have ever met in my entire life (other than my own, of course), is Baby Joey.

Despite the horror inflicted on his life as a puppy, he lets nothing slow him down. Baby Joey is a survivor. Baby Joey was found as a puppy with nearly both of his rear paws chopped off: By an unspeakable monster. Instead of focusing on his nightmare past, Fidose of Reality is taking the lead from this pistol of a pooch: Forge ahead and don’t let the bad guys win!

Thanks to the kind folks at Merrick Pet Care, Baby Joey is having the best life ever. Baby Joey received immediate medical treatment, and the rescue team at NYC Second Chance Rescue posted his photos and backstory online. Joey is forming and developing at this time in a way that is posturally incorrect, so he was recently fitted with prosthetic custom limbs. Our friends at Merrick are helping with his rehab!

Baby Joey is thriving on his Merrick food, as you can see in this video:

He also gets rehab at Water 4 Dogs and is quite the “fish” when it comes to his doggie paddle! Go, Joey, go!

Sadly, his forever home situation fell through, and that’s where you come in. Baby Joey is a rock star, and he deserves to have a forever home where someone can love him, care for him, and give him the TLC he deserves.

Baby Joey Fast Facts

Recently, at the Wigglebutts Uncorked fundraiser hosted by Wigglebutt Warriors, Baby Joey’s foster mom, Regina Mendoza, won the award of Wigglebutt Warrior of the Year for fostering over 120 dogs and helping them get them into loving, forever homes! Yet Baby Joey is not getting the home of his dream: A forever one full of love and walks, cuddles and play sessions.

Baby Joey’s DNA reveals that he is a dog composed of the following breeds: Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Parson Russell Terrier

Baby Joey has prosthetic limbs he is using thanks to the folks at Merrick Pet Care.

Baby Joey is: Vivacious – Fun – A Love Bug – Loves to Meet New People – Gets Along Well With Other Dogs

Medical Case of the Week

Toby was found earlier this week by the folks at NYC Second Chance Rescue when someone threw him from a SUV traveling at a high-speed,  in this white garbage bag, as you see in the photo. (no graphic photos).

A woman who was driving the opposite direction saw the bag flop to the side of the road, and realized a head was sticking out. How a person could ever do such a evil thing to a small innocent creature is incomprehensible.   Toby is in critical condition, and his temp is low and he can not stand up or move. Please help us to help Toby, donations are needed for his vet care go to

Dog needs help
Please say a prayer for this little guy, we are so worried about him. The authorities have been contacted and we pray someone has gotten the plate number of the SUV. We will keep you all updated.

Guh, I can’t understand the motivation behind some of the things people do to pets. If you don’t want an animal, find it a home! Don’t toss it out of a moving car!

Chopping off feet? 🙁 People are awful.

  2. Miss Molly Says says

Little Joey looks like a total love bug and I agree! He deserves a wonderful furever home! And, poor little Toby! There are seriously some cruel people in this world! I wish him the best of luck too!

While Baby Joey may be special needs we need to help him find a home! Such a great post – I’m sharing across channels. It’s wonderful what Merrick is doing for him – so awesome!

We love Baby Joey and I hope some day soon, I’m reading about his amazing adoption story. He is so deserving of a loving and caring forever family. That being said, his foster parent is giving him amazing care, which I am so thankful for.

We loved meeting Joey. He is a love-bug and I bet he is a smart, trainable one with that cute mix. Duck tollers are one of my favourite looking breeds (and Canadian LOL) and JRTS are big on Talent Hounds as often so talented. K Pug still wants to eat other dogs for now so he may be an only child for a while, but will share again. Can not believe why people behave the way they do. Throwing a dog out like garbage at high speed sucks. Hoping he’s OK.

  6. Sarcastic Dog says

I will never understand the inhumanity displayed by some “humans”. The world of rescue can be so emotionally damaging and then you hear a story of recovery, resilience and the ability to forgive as Baby Joey has done despite his rough start, and it reminds you why you keep advocating and education and fostering and rescuing. Absolutely sharing this one every where, Carol! Sending big hugs to Toby for a speedy recovery as well.

    What is wrong with people???

Joey is a beautiful, positive spirit and someone(s) will be lucky to have him in their life. I am sending positive thoughts for Toby. Thank you to the wonderful person who scooped him up and found medical care for him.

Joey is a cutie and what in inspiration. I hope he finds his forever home soon! (With that sweet face, I’m sure it will be)! All positive power of the paw being sent to little Toby. Thank goodness for the good Samaritan who stopped to help. Pinning this to my “Bark About.”

  9. Robin says

I’m glad to see that Baby Joey is thriving despite how he was treated. Some humans are monsters – there is no hiding that fact. I don’t understand how people can do some of the things they do. I will be praying for the dog that was thrown out of the car too. Hopefully, his will be another life that defies the circumstances.
