Pet Friendly Maine: Cape Elizabeth and Inn by the Sea

Looking to plan a dog-friendly, dog-welcoming getaway this fall? Take one part ocean, a few parts shopping, large servings of delicious food, and toss in a town that rolls out the red carpet to dogs and you’ve got Cape Elizabeth, Portland, and Freeport Maine.

Fidose of Reality has visited many places and makes no bones about it: Maine is one of the most pet friendly states we’ve had the pleasure of visiting. Cape Elizabeth is a quiet town in Cumberland County and home to some gorgeous lighthouses. If you stay at the very pet-welcoming accommodations from Inn by the Sea, you’ll have access to Crescent Beach. The beach is conveniently located behind the Inn so access is easy. From June 15 to September 10 dogs on a leash are allowed on the beach before 10 a.m. and after 5 p.m. After that, dogs are welcome on the beach in general.cocker spaniel at beach

If your dog is more of a pool swimmer, there is a very special surprise at Inn by the Sea in that department, too (check out the video below).

The restaurant has a doggie menu, and guests are welcome to dine al fresco with their dog on the outdoor patio.  Oh, and if Fido needs a little rub down after a day at the beach, a pet masseuse is more than happy to service that need. *insert wag here*

We’ll be profiling the area in a multi-part series this week on Fidose of Reality, so stay tuned for more dog-friendly fun and travel news from Maine.
