Pack of Sweet 16 Dogs Need Your Help

Valentine’s Day is in the air, and that means love, hearts, hugs, cupids, and dogs in love. Can dogs really fall in love and capture someone’s heart? If you are the proud mom or dad of a dog, no doubt you love your dog(s) dearly. No doubt, our dogs wrap themselves around our hearts.

Fidose of Reality is challenging all pet parents to show how much they love their own dog by taking a peek at our pack of Sweet 16 dogs. Here’s the scoop:

Our friends at OBG Cocker Rescue took in sixteen dogs, including Cocker Spaniels, Bichons, Toy Poodles, and mixed breed dogs. Tragically, the owner of these dogs was recently killed in a tractor accident and his physically handicapped widow could no longer provide either the physical or financial care these dogs required.  The outdoor living conditions for many of these dogs made the rescue all the more urgent. Yes, the dogs were living outside in what appears to be a hoarding type of situation. We are grateful the woman reached out and knew she needed the help. Thankfully, the folks at OBG Cocker Rescue intervened.

The Reality and How You Can Help The Sweet 16

Thanks to the folks at Crosspointe Animal Hospital. When the OBG Cocker Rescue volunteers arrived at Crosspointe on Monday night exhausted and covered with feces, urine, and vomit (rescuers lead such a glamorous life), the staff at Crosspointe immediately sprang into action.

They had one-half of their lobby cleared out so they could use it solely for this intake. The smell of dirty dogs, vomit and feces was overpowering, not only to the OBG volunteers and the Crosspointe staff, but also to their regular clientele that were there for appointments, but no one complained. The staff even took it upon themselves to clean up all the dirty transport crates and replace the dirty towels with clean ones. They are all incredibly caring people at Crosspointe and OBG is very fortunate to work with them.

See that thing that looks like a mass on this dog’s foot? It is hair that was allowed to overgrow. Binky will have all his teeth pulled and be cared for and groomed. Can you help?

Why Does it Matter

On Monday afternoon, the rescue team drove all 16 dogs to Crosspointe Animal Hospital in Fairfax Station, Virginia.  Many of these poor, sweet dogs were so frightened they would not come out of their crates voluntarily.  In many instances, the crates had to be taken apart so the dogs could be lifted out of the crates.  The Sweet 16 are starting to settle in now to their new surroundings and will soon be ready for foster care and adoption, but we need YOUR help to give them the new lives they so deserve.

Now What

The medical care for these dogs is expected to exceed $16,000. OBG has established a Your Caring Fund for our “Sweet 16” to raise funds. Donations can be made at this very special Chip-In Link:

OBG is also in urgent need of foster homes to help these dogs start their new lives and find forever families!  The dogs have varying needs as far as socialization and housetraining are concerned and potential fosters and adopters will find some of the dogs are more socialized and more comfortable with people than others.  Anyone interested in fostering can contact Photos of the pups as they arrived are posted below. Keep in mind, they will look so much different once they have been vetted, bathed, and groomed.

I am crying as I read this. How gut wrenching and heartbreaking this is. Thank you to OBG for saving these dogs. You bet I’m going to donate, and please if anyone else out there can donate, please do, too.

    Thank you for sharing this.

  2. Val Sorensen says

OMG So glad they are safe, clean and warm. Can only imagine what their existence must have been all this time. Thank you, OGB for saving all these babies!

  3. The Scottie Mom says

Oh my goodness…what a sad story (as of now, of course – I’m confident these cuties will find furever homes soon). Rescue workers do such incredible work. I look forward to the day when rescue work won’t be needed anymore (will the day ever come?). Every animal deserves a loving home! Thanks for helping OBG spread the word about these sweeties. Much love, The Scottie Mom.
