Teach Your Dog Hide and Seek Trick or Treat Giveaway

It’s time for the Trick or Treat Giveaway 2018 for dog lovers! We teach a trick, you get treats! Hide and seek is a fun game to play with your dog during cold weather, on rainy days, and just for some indoor fun. It’s also a neat trick of sorts that you can teach your dog.

Trick or Treat giveaway for dogs

No matter your dog’s age, this is fun for dogs of all ages and also to help train them. My dog is official an AKC trick dog, achieving both the novice and intermediate titles! An AKC trick dog title helps instill confidence and so much more in dogs. I don’t plan to have my dog do television, commercials, or movies; my dog and I worked towards our AKC trick dog titles for other reasons. He also achieved his Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title at a few years of age.

Just for stopping by and checking learning about this “trick,” we invite you to enter this year’s Trick or Treat Giveaway hop after you see Dexter work his hide and seek magic. It’s well worth it because the prizes are below. And you have mega chances to win, so watch the trick and then enter to win the treats!

Hide and seek trick

Teaching Your Dog Hide and Seek

Promise yourself two things: You will have patience/never yell at or scold a dog AND you will try this is very short segments. Five minutes once or twice a day. I learned long ago from dog mom who has a trick dog that smaller bursts of trying something new is key AND you should always end on a positive note. Clap and reward your dog. You want the dog to feel good for doing this and not like a robot who must follow orders.

Let’s Recap That Trick

Start out with a few of your dog’s favorite treats. This game requires two people. One person stays with your dog in a room, while the other hides. When ready to be sought, the person hiding lets out a sound to initiate the game. As your dog scours from room to room, occasionally let out a verbal signal. Once found, praise him like he just won an Olympic medal and reward with a treat. Repeat.

I’ve heard pet parents say, “I can’t play with my dog, he has arthritis” or “I want to play with my dog, but he’s old.” Ease a dog into swimming, do slow walks around the neighborhood or join a dog lovers group. Whatever the case, growing old is a mindset. Modify the methods and take precautions, but keep the dog moving in some way. If your dog is deaf, his sense of smell will be heightened when trying to find you. My dog sniffs for me and the treat I am holding, so this makes for a fun challenge.
