It’s dog trick and dog treat time! Two things are at the epitome of our blog: Health and wellness for dogs. Part of keeping your dog healthy involves his or her mental well being. Despite the adage that you “can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” we say phooey! Dogs of any age can learn new tricks: It just takes a little gentle coaxing, working within the dog’s overall state of health, and knowing what does or does not motivate the dog. Top that off with major positive reinforcement in very short bursts of training, and you’ve got a recipe for success.
Speaking of recipes for success, Fidose of Reality is paw-ticipating in the first ever #TrickorTreatDogs giveaway featuring a variety of pet bloggers showcasing dog tricks and YOU win all the prizes. There is no need for your dog to do a trick: We just want to show you what our dogs know how to do. If you feel inspired to teach your pooch a new trick, now you have videos coming over the next week or so to show you how.
In the meantime, we are giving away some fantastic prizes to the tune of over $1,000 worth of goodies, just in time for Halloween! Thanks to Jessica and Luna from Beagles and Bargains along with Jodi and Kol from Kol’s Notes for coming up with this fab idea and inviting us (and our readers) to the fun!

Here is how to teach your dog to “roll over” – and always remember:
- Positive reinforcement
- Never force a dog to do something
- This is an advanced level trick – don’t do this trick if your dog has no clue what sit or down is. Start slow.
- Work in short bursts- no more than 10 to 15 minutes and always end on a positive note
- Don’t get frustrated or mad at the dog: Patience is key

Burying her treats and bones in my pillow BOL
Oh my puppy would love those for training. Right now her favorite trick is sitting since that is the only thing I taught her so far.
Trick or Treat! Bailie is the first and only one in the family to do the rollover trick. Good job Dexter! It is pretty easy to teach, especially if a dog is younger!
My dog favorite trick is hiding his dog treats
My dog’s favorite trick is to bring me her bowls when she wants food. LOL
Hi! My dog knows Rollover! I think her favorite trick is probably ‘wipe your eyes’ and ‘Perch’ (which means to jump up onto an elevated surface like my back, a stump, or a chair). In the skill testing question, I am SO SORRY, but I live in the USA, so I said “Hey USA”, but I was typing “but the answer is 504”, but I was on my mobile phone and my hand got bumped. It ended up typing ‘ugly’ and then the enter button. I’m so sorry. I just don’t want you to think I typed that on purpose!!! Here is a video of my dog, Tonya, doing Rollover and some of her other tricks she loves to do: https://youtube.com/watch?v=fX9WHyJVh_E
Your dog is adorable 🙂
I would say her favorite trick is high five. I need to teach her some new or more exciting tricks! Her and Dex will have to have a lesson together to learn something new!
my oldest Evie, is the only one who really does tricks. she can do several: prance, rollover, play dead, used to be able to walk on her hind legs and dance til she hurt her back which was my favorite.

Lily & Edward
What an awesome prize pack! What dog doesn’t love some high quality treats? I know ours do!
We taught our dog to wipe her feet before she comes in the house! Our friends laugh hysterically when they see her run to the door and wipe her feet — no command needed anymore. 🙂
I think it is so important to treat our furkids around holidays! I feel they DO know something special is going on and they are our babies too!
Shunta sits and shakes hands.

yay for dog treats! I wish our dogs could have dog treats.
Harley was a stray so, we’re happy that she answers to her name. Fetch kinda freaked her out. She thought we were throwing stuff at her.
Dexter is definitely a master of that trick! I’ve tried “roll over” with our Lab mix Luke a couple different times with no progress. But you do it a little differently than what I was trying, so I may try your way next time.
Luke’s best trick I think is “close it”, he gets positively excited about closing cabinet doors, especially his treat cabinet!
Shiloh’s favorite tricks are spinning and putting his toys away. Wager likes backing up, and also loves spinning and hand touches.
I taught my dog Bentley how to sit when we first got him. He’s super smart and potty trained pretty quickly. Sounds like a great giveaway hop.
