Our Cocker Spaniel and ins-paw-ration is set to grace the big screen, with a New York City premiere of The Dog Wedding movie, this Saturday, November 21st. The Dog Wedding” is a  bark-out-loud romantic comedy about a German businesswoman (Rosalie Thomass) who falls for an American wrestler (Matthew Bloom) while planning their English Bulldogs’ wedding, premieres November 21, 2015 at The Auditorium On Broadway, 1871 Broadway, at 5:30pm. Mr. Bloom and Ms. Thomass will attend, as will their co-stars and the filmmakers.

The Fidose of Reality family will be there, too, so expect a full report, images, video, and the scoop on the who wore what and who sniffed whom. In advance of this gala event and movie premiere, I connected with Jason B. Hurwitz, the film’s Producer, to get the inside scoop and what to expect this weekend in New York City!

The Backstory

“The Dog Wedding” movie premiere is also the big screen debut for 50 canine couples who won “The Dog Wedding” Photo Contest. In total, the Contest received 572 photo entries from dog weddings in 41 states and 12 countries. The winners, which total 3 million social media followers, include rescue ambassa-dogs Titus & Hailey (Grand Prize), celebrity rescue Chloe Kardoggian and the inspirational Simon The Blind Pug, and our very own Dexter the Wigglebutt Warrior, mascot of Fidose of Reality. Their photos grace the film’s unique opening credit sequence. Dexter even appeared in People online!

Through the fundraising arm of this blog, Wigglebutt Warriors® hosted our first gala fundraiser a few years ago called Wigglebutt Wedding to raise funds for dogs in need. From there, my spouse and I continued to fundraise and now Wigglebutt Warriors does year-round amazing things for homeless dogs and dogs in need.

This movie is a romantic comedy involving a couple who only crosses paths at a dog park. It is love at first sniff for their Bulldogs. The humans end up coming together, and they discover a connection through their dogs.

The Plot

Sent to Arizona to close a pickle factory, an uptight German businesswoman falls for a kind-hearted American wrestler she meets at a dog park, testing her lifelong obedience to her CEO/father. Making her U.S. film debut, German star Rosalie Thomass plays opposite World Wrestling Entertainment’s Matthew Bloom, Bernhard Schütz and a delightfully eccentric cast in this refreshing romantic comedy. Follow the improbable duo as they discover that your best friend’s wedding can be a real wake-up call.

The Interview

“I have a passion for dogs. My girlfriend and I have a rescued Puggle,” Hurwitz admits. “But it was my friend, Matthew Bloom, known worldwide for his 15-year career with WWE and New Japan Pro Wrestling, who worked with me on this for many years.”

Hurwitz first met Bloom in kindergarten, and throughout their lives, it had been a dream for the dynamic duo to make a movie together. Since Matthew always had bulldogs, Hurwitz developed an idea of this unlikely couple – of a business woman and a pro wrestler – getting together through their dogs.

To an outsider, Hurwitz realizes some may think a dog wedding is absurd, but it actually brings people together. The smiles on people’s faces at the dog wedding are amazing.

Who Are the Movie’s Stars

The film was shot in Arizona. The desert created a magical location, and they looked around for families with Bulldogs in the area. One couple in particular caught their eye, and this just worked out.

Helping Dogs in Need

“We’re proud to donate 100% of ticket sales to Canine Companions for Independence and Long Island Bulldog Rescue,”  Hurwitz shares. “These charitable organizations serve New York with 50 collective years of dedication to animal welfare and the human-canine bond.”

Dogs Help Us Lead a Better Life

Did he prefer working with people or pets? Hurwitz says the dogs were the greatest and they brightened up the whole set.

“They filmed the whole movie in a month,” he reveals. “The dogs livened up the set.”

Family Flick

The target audience is a family: All can watch it together. It is fun, intelligent, and family friendly. It will be rated PG-13 for its public release. The big release will be Valentine’s Day of 2016.

Hurwitz says the film is timeless.

“With Instagram, some cultural shifts like people dressing up their dogs, pet parenthood is more familiar these days.”
