This post was not paid for, I have no reason to share it other than these products work, and if you love your dog and want him or her to live a long, healthy, happy life, these are the kind of products to use on your dog. Some brands just absolutely “get it” when it comes to making products for dogs that have an impact. They don’t deal with nasty ingredients that require a translator to pronounce and they believe that a product well made that benefits dog is the way to success. One such brand is Dr. Harvey’s. I firmly believe they make products to help extend your dog’s life. I am not a veterinarian, but I am a well-read, well-versed, well-educated dog mom with over 20 years experience as one and over a dozen years in the pet industry. I see a lot, I read a lot, I know a lot, and I talk to the experts every day.
Fidose of Reality is proud to announce that Dr. Harvey’s is officially a Premier Platinum Sponsor for our big Wigglebutts Uncorked fundraising event, and the rumor in the closest of paw circles is that the President of Dr. Harvey’s will be in attendance. This is a big deal because our dog, Dexter, has been using Dr. Harvey’s products his entire life, and our previous Cocker Spaniel, Brandy Noel, was a Dr. Harvey’s product user, too. I only wish I had discovered this brand years earlier, as I know the impact good nutrition, quality supplements, and safe yummy treats can have on a dog’s overall well being.
Everyone who attends Wigglebutts Uncorked will receive a Dr. Harvey’s goodie bag of items to try, but we’d like to give you a snapshot of some of our faves worth checking out, trying on your dog, and perhaps stuffing into the stockings of your dog loving friends this holiday season.
Organic Healing Cream
This is a miracle cream in a jar, and I am even using it. I am not one to be easily sold on claims of a product being a miracle, but this one sets the bar high. Dr. Harvey’s Organic Healing Cream is a combination of healing herbs in a base of organic shea butter. This cream is used for minor skin irritations, hot spots, rashes, cuts, sunburn and itching. It is great for human bug bites, too! I use it on Dexter’s paw pads: They are oh so smooth and soft now. Toss this in your dog’s first aid bag right away.
Veg-to-Bowl Grain Free Dog Food PreMix
Dehydrated, raw, human-grade pet food: If you told me to feed that to my dog 10 years ago, I might have looked at you as if you spoke a foreign language. Today, I feed dehydrated, raw, human-grade pet food to my dog. Coupled with Dr. Harvey’s Veg-to-Bowl (to sneak some extra veggies in to a dog who isn’t too fond of them), I feel good in what I feed my baby boy. Consider thinking outside the box when it comes to puppy food, dog food, and ensuring your dog receives complete nutrition; oh and having your dog enjoy the food is a bonus, right? One size, nor food, certainly does not fit all.
Anyone who knows me or has read this blog knows I am a terrible cook. And even I can make this premix for my dog. You add warm water, stir, wait, and wha-la. Veg-to-Bowl is a grain-free dog food pre-mix made with nine different vegetables that when mixed with protein and oil makes a complete all-natural dog food. Which would you rather eat in a bowl: Something hard that sort of resembles cereal pellets or something that smells, tastes, and looks good and is actually GOOD for your dog?
Our dog is a major player….a game player that is. We are super fans of Nina Ottosson board games for dogs, and our pooch literally has a collection of them. He keeps getting better and better at the games. We like to use a high value treat that Dexter, our pooch, really wants when hiding treat pieces in the games. We also don’t want to use treats that are super high in calories nor treats that are full of junk and fillers like sugar.
Dr. Harvey’s Coconut Smiles are a healthy and delicious treat made with just one ingredient – organic dehydrated coconut. Coconut is regarded as a ‘superfood’ because of its countless health benefits. Coconut Smiles are chock-full of powerful nutrients and rich in fiber to support digestion. We break the coconut smiles up into small pieces and fill his game with them. You can use them as rewards and feel good treats, too. They are dubbed “smiles” because of their shape!
Herbal Protection Spray
We do not use chemicals on our dog. I will not use anything on my dog unless I would use it on myself: Plain and simple. All of the products I am recommending here I have actually used myself: And yes, I eat the veggies now and then and the Coconut Smiles, too. I also use the cream and this herbal protection spray. This herbal protection spray is ensconced in a base of Witch Hazel, Catnip Oil, Erigeron Oil, Neem Oil, Citronella Oil, Cedarwood Oil, Geranium Oil, Eucalyptus Oil, Organic Rosemary Extract. Before you go for your walk, spray your dog, the collar and the leash. When you return home you can spray again. Also use liberally wherever you dog sleeps. The herbal extracts will protect your dog without the use of dangerous chemicals.
I do not use the topical chemical spot-ons. The smell of this spray is pleasant, I use it in conjunction with a full plan against fleas and ticks (year round, since fleas and ticks don’t go away for the winter), and we never have an infestation.
Relax and Destress
I am going to be upfront: the wrap/anxiety wrap shirts for dogs never worked for us. I tried them a few times, really wanted them to work, and even after following all instructions and keeping our paws crossed the anxiety shirt would work….it just never did for our pooch. If they work for your dog, that is fantastic.
Our dog has issues with fireworks and thunderstorms. When things get too upsetting for him, he breathes heavily and goes into a full on shake mode. It is not pleasant for the dog nor us to witness. Dr. Harvey’s Relax and Stress for Dogs is a powdered supplement that may be used as an all-natural aid to calm dogs, without harmful side effects. You simply mix it with food, as needed, and the amount you give is based on the weight of the dog. We use it when a storm is coming and used it over fourth of July with success. I am not a fan of having to use prescription medications on my dog unless absolutely necessary: And that happens very rarely, but we have vet-prescribed Xanax on hand.
For those times when your dog is stressed, is unhappy about a car ride, or perhaps he or she is afraid of thunder or lightning, the Relax and Stress supplement takes an edge off without making our dog sedated.
One last item that I absolutely must mention are the Dr. Harvey’s Power Patties. The power patties are like catnip for dogs: Green tripe is oh so pungent but dogs go oh so bonkers for them. And I feel good feeding a safe treat from this brand I trust. Break off small pieces and feed to your dog as a treat or reward. And you probably should hide these treats: Dogs have been known to literally break into the bag and steal the contents. I can vouch for this, as our pooch was busted in the act! They contain no chemicals, dyes, preservatives, fillers or synthetic ingredients.
As users of the line for over 15 years, we can attest to the efficacy, long-term benefits, and happy, healthy dogs that result. Though we cannot guarantee anything for your dog, this is the type of line to give a try, watch the results, and be happy we told you about them. Oh, and come meet them in paw-son in Washingtonville, New York (an hour from New York City) on April 16, 2016, at America’s Oldest Winery: Brotherhood Winery. The Wigglebutts Uncorked event is half sold out and it is a 2-day gala weekend.
