The Domestic Dogdess strikes again! Cooking up something healthy, safe, and easy to make for a dog treat doesn’t sound like the easiest task, does it? I’m all thumbs in the kitchen, so I can relate if you nodded in agreement with me.
Our Puppy Relations’ Manager, Dexter, has a very special recipe to share courtesy is girlfriend/fiancee, Zoe, the Domestic Dogdess! The duo snacked on this recently when we visited to do some Wigglebutt Wedding planning, and let’s just say there wasn’t a clean plate in the house.
Dog moms and dog dads looking to make their dogs a tasty treat for Valentine’s Day (and year round, for that matter), allow us to introduce Zoe’s Mutt Balls in Creamy Sauce
1 lb lean ground beef, chicken, or lamb
½ cup finely grated carrot
½ cup finely grated zucchini
½ cup finely grated broccoli stems
½ cup cooked quinoa
1 large egg
1 can beef broth
1 cup water
½ cup yogurt
Mix together first 6 ingredients in a medium bowl. Form mixture into 1” balls and place on plate. Bring broth and water to a boil. Drop about 1/3 of the mutt balls into the pot. Lower heat to medium and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove mutt balls and set a side, repeating with remaining balls.
When all the mutt balls are cooked, bring cooking liquid to a boil. Cook, stirring occasionally for 10 minutes to reduce the liquid. Whisk in ½ cup of yogurt and return mutt balls to the gravy. Let cool to lukewarm before serving. If you’re feeling in a Lady and the Tramp kind of mood, serve mutt balls and gravy over cooked whole grain rice or quinoa pasta!
